If you have not done yoga before, now would be a great time to start. I am going to rattle off a few benefits of doing so really quick,
1. Improved Flexibility. Now this one is a given. Yoga is designed to bend and stretch muscles so naturally, your flexibility will get better over time.
2. Relieve Stress and Anxiety. With day to day life getting busier and busier every passing day people tend to feel overwhelmed and stressed out. Stress can really do some damage if not put into check. The stress hormone Cortisol can lead to weight gain and that can cause a whole slew of other problems.
3. Improved balance. As we age (unfortunately) we start to lose mobility skills and other things. I am already clumsy as it is so I'm only going to guess it is going to get worse with age. Falling up a set of stairs is pretty funny now but yikes. Yoga can help with that in the long run. Yoga is not just about meditation and albeit sometimes funny looking positions. It is about core power and helping your body. That is why every time you see a yoga ad they are always stretched out and balancing on something.
Now, this is not a list of why yoga is good and all that jazz. I'm going to go out on a whim here and assume you have been thinking about doing it for a bit. What is stopping you? There are HUNDREDS of 10/15 minute yoga videos on the internet. So the only excuse is procrastination. Anyway, I'm going to give you the rundown on what the following products are and why you will need them.
To start out you are going to need a mat. Mats are more of a personal thing to some people. Some like hard, others like soft and more sticky and some people just don't use one at all (rebels, I like it). However, mats are there for safety to make sure you don't slip. They have a textured surface on both sides most of the time to grip the floor and you.
Another good thing to have is some foam blocks. Some yoga positions require some additional support. That is where the blocks come into play. They offer support and more sturdiness while doing some of the more physically demanding positions like this.

Next on our list is a yoga strap, the yoga strap is to help you with posture and reach. For example, if you can't quite reach the full pose you are trying to do you can use the strap for a bit of extra extension (see pic below) and gradually work your way up to using your hands. On the other hand, some poses require the strap entirely.
Lastly, we have the face and hand towels. When you are working up a sweat we all know its good to wipe it off every now and again. I personally use microfiber towels, they dry quick and suck up all the sweat. Plus they feel AMAZING...
